It is cheap, no doubt about it. However it tends to breakdown too easily. Mine is already making funny noises.

Re: Any Comments..? on Daiwa Freams 4500J

Hi

I started on this reel and I have two of them still. Both made in Thailand. Good mid lower end reel for its class size. More than enough for fishing at places like Rompin and Sedili. Very decent drag and line capacity even up to 30 lbs braid. IMHO value for money at its current price of $135 to $150 new. Biggest fish landed on one of my reels is a 9.5 kg cobia at nenasi by my friend.

The spool has a tendency to corrode if you forget to maintain and after some heavy duty fishing - it can be used for jigging bottom trolling or popping (got to be careful as the bail arm tends to close on casting esp if you change to a power knob) you will get funny noise like Davidliu mentioned. But maintenance is a breeze - strip and soak in lighter fluid lube with gear and bearing oil, a change of bearing here and there if necessary (esp the roller bearing) and it will be up to speed again.

The new model Oceanos 4500J (I think that's what it is called) is one sexy black reel. Have not played with it yet though.

Hope my feedback helps.

Cheers,

Joshua
