| Moderator | All Samson Hunters fall in!!!!!!! Attention to All Samson Hunters going on the Hunt from Nov 2006 to Jan 2007 As there are some guys who are relatively new to Samson fishing (Including me), I would like to take the chance to actually know wat to expected when I hit one...... I know its not going to be like any Ang Cho trip as the bite is going to HOT and Fierce!!!! I would to share abt the tackle used, knots(I am pretty weak in this area this year) and the jigs used??...... The condition of sea state and the wind condition of Perth??.... After fishing , are there any night life in Perth???Where to go for the best meal??? Wat is worth buying over there??? Any tackle shops over there??? Can we fish in Perth itself???Where can we fish???Wat are the fish targeted??? Hope the answer here can help to prepare us for the long-awaited trip to Down-Under..... Thanks for the help in advance.... Cheers JAson

My Mood: Rep Power: 6 ![]() ![]() | Good luck Jason! I'm no expert but I personally would take a Samson trip as a test/gauge of your fighting technique, knots/connections and gear set-up. Great testing ground for tackle set-ups and fighting technique but not necessarily the best place to test jigs and jigging technique. Hope you break all your rods and reels Last edited by MarkR : 13-10-2006 at 10:26 AM. |

My Mood: Rep Power: 6 ![]() ![]() | I suppose long jigs work the best for Seriolas so Samsons would be no exception. Fisherman crazy long 520g...now ya talking...hey if u can get hold of those 1m long dancing magic aluminium jigs (sure Mikey has a few stashed away)...may just land you a monster sambo |

I used mostly PE6 lines with Satilgas and Stellas but pple have gotten by with lighter gears. Currents there can be quite strong but depending on the boat you use, some of them do have parachutes to slow the drift. Perth is one of THE windiest cities in the world - so be prepared for some heavy swells. As for night life, you do have Burswood Casino if that's your poison. Other than that, you do have your normal bars and discos if that's what you're after. As for meals, there's just too many places - so it depends what type of cuisine you like. Maybe you can specify what you're looking for and I'll try and jolt my archaic memory into action and see if I can remember a thing or 2. There's a number of tackle shops as well - probably Bluewaters is the best stocked. Fishing can be done in Perth and Freo but dont expect too much. You can fish in North or south mole or Victoria Quay in Freo. Or some of the beaches north of Perth. Mostly smallish fish like herring, yellowtail scads, whiting and bream in the river. I doubt you want to spend time soaking bait thru the night but if you do, there is a chance of unstoppable stingrays, sharks and summer mulloway (jewfish). Chopper tailors might be in - great fun on light tackle and rubber lures or metal jigs. Best thing to do is pop into a tackle shop and ask them where the fish are biting and they will tell you quite willingly. Cheers | |

| Moderator | Hey.......be very welcome to Sambo land....or sea..... Nov thru to Jan is peak period for them as they congregate in enormous numbers to spawn and generally range from 10kg to 50kg+. With gear generally use heavy enough gear so you can control your fish and not let it run all over the place and taking huge amount of lines. Jig choice are just about negligible but best to pick one that sink the quickest and easiest to jig with, mainly 300gm upwards. Another thing is not too fish too many ppl at the same time. fish 4-5ppl per drop. Knots......stick with what you know best and the strongest as well. Leaders are generally upwards of 100lb and 2m+ so it easy for the deckie to handle. Night life is plenty, well probably half as much as in Singapore......Freo has its cafe strip on cantonment st. Most of the night life are generally in Perth's Northbridge, even then its mainly weekends thats better. Summer is fishing can great for the likes of Flathead and flounder, chopper tailor ( small size bluefish) so if you are keen bring along your light tackle (2-4kg) and 4-8cm minnows. Otherwise Burswood casino if you want to donate money. =) Oh pub.....Left Bank, under Stirling Bridge in East Fremantle. Which charter have you booked Jason?? |
