Varivas! from a jigging/popping fan's point of viewI think a lot of anglers who hunt for Marlins like Jinkai. Trouble is, the readily found stock in SG might not be "fresh". Was told by an old friend that even line exposed to household lights are prone to uv damage and Jinkai is often sold in loose coils so those you find in dusty packaging might have lost a great deal of its strength.
Sabre has a healthy stockpile of Varivas there![]()
hmmm,,think i missed it today..okie maybe tomorrow go see see again. but the cost range ?
can someone tells me, 150lbs 250lbs , if i were to use a watever brand eg. Varivas versus cheap Dupont. will it affect the catch rate?
I will be using it for nite fishing. 60-100m depth. using kelong sotong / small parrot fish![]()
wow using 150-250 lbs shock leader!! targetting monsters? I also want to go!
hey why don't you try using a long length of kevlar or xylon? just crimp it to your ranggong/hook. They are almost 300lb test and much tougher than nylon![]()
yeah those are the cords I was talking about but instead of tying short assist hooks you use them like you would with regular nylon leadersif you use 3m of nylon then just cut 3m of kevlar/zylon and rig up. The only down side would be snagging up on the bottom
lb for lb I think zylon or kevlar might be significantly thinner than nylon so your bait should "flutter" in the water more naturally. Don't have to worry about fish seeing your leader also since you're fishing at night. I suspect you're after big "gaos" right?

Fukui-san seems to use short bite leader of kevlar/Dyneema cord joined to mono shock leader for his stickbaits & poppers...can see shimano TV
Anyone know what knot he uses for the joint?
uni to uni if I'm not wrong. but crimping might be an easier option![]()
eh bro... might be ex but can reuse mah!![]()
ya lor..super "X" leader.![]()
Not too sure if you will understand without pics, but for deep bottom, what I do is to use hollow assist cord, splice it to secure the hook. Then thread the flexi mono leader into the hollow of the cord. Do a figure 8 at the end of the cord real close to the mono leader entry point, if ur assist cord is long enough u can skip the figure 8. Use dental floss to whip up the loose tag end of the cord to make it neat and flush and secure with a drop or two of super glue. If a double hook rig is needed, just add 2nd hook via assist cord to the first hook eye. Pretty tough and reliable rig good for big bottom stuff that does not spook fish as much as wire and not so expensive to lose.
yes pls...some PIC to enlighten us...pls.![]()
Some nice grouper action at the last 10min of this clip:

YGK are not bad.
Problem with Varivas leaders is they tend to curl up like permed hair after a few drop. Anyone experienced this before?![]()
